13-yr-old Malala Yousufzai promoting peace between India & Pak
A 13-year-old girl cares to show the world by leading an example in promoting love between the two foes – India and Pakistan. Even at such a young age, Malala Yousufzai realizes that Pakistan and India’s face-off has a serious repercussion on the people residing in these two countries.Little did she know that her distress expressed in a diary for BBC Urdu online, will earn her the nomination for the International Children's Peace Prize, 2011. Yousufzai beat 93 contestants from 42 countries to get nominations for the Peace Prize.
Like every girl, Malala also wanted to go to school and watch Indian TV serials, but the ban imposed by Taliban in the Swat valley, snatched away everything from her. At least, she is brave enough to let out her anguish and let the whole world know about her suffering. But what about thousands of other girls in the valley; who’s giving voice to their suffering and pain? Probably, the heinous way of punishment by the Taliban has created fear amongst them from voicing their angst against the ban. The Taliban does not hesitate while stoning, hanging, or brutally cutting off any body parts – be it a man or a woman; they spare no one. They show no mercy to those who go against their will. And in such a situation, how can you expect these little girls to go against them?
Her lone battle might give a little hope to her friends and other girls in the valley. But, what’s wrong if a girl goes to school and wishes to have a proper education? Education empowers a girl to make her life more secure and paves way for a bright and better future. Let’s not forget that, education is the key to success. What right does the Taliban have in curbing someone else’s freedom? How long will they continue with their reign of terror in the valley?
Now that the world has met Malala Yousufzai, let us not make her efforts in promoting girls’ rights in the valley go in vain. All the world leaders, especially Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani really needs to do some serious rethinking on this issue. Like every other girl, these girls in the valley should also be given a chance to lead a normal life. And it’s our duty to deliver them, the life they want to lead.
