What should you do when your husband or boyfriend starts making excuses for not wearing a condom? Unprotected sex puts women at various health risks and increases chances of an HIV infection. Is love worth risking your life?

The answer to this question is ‘No’. You had a life even before you met this guy. Why risk what you have and become miserable in order make your relationship work. The thing is- if he can’t be a responsible man and puts your life in danger by having unprotected sex, you need to rethink your decision to be with such a man. There are some who can be deceptive and may even trick you into giving in, but, it’s upon you to do the right thing.

Unwanted pregnancy: Before you know it and before you are even ready for something as big as a pregnancy to hit you, you realise you have fallen prey to this. You miss your period, are tormented by vomiting sensations and have no clue how to deal with this situation. Your man will tell you it is ok, but it never is. It changes everything. You feel different physically and mentally, and there are some cases where things have gone awfully wrong. There are chances of being shunned by your family, especially in a country like India. Apart from all the apparent problems, an unwanted pregnancy may leave permanent scars in your life.

HIV Aids: Your safety is at risk when your man refuses to wear a condom while having intercourse. Condoms protect you from catching an STD, including HIV. Birth control pills do not protect you from the same and if your man says, “Wearing condoms is uncomfortable,” you can retort right back by saying, “so is an HIV infection!” Why the hell would anybody do something as stupid as this for the sake of love? You are not a fairytale princess and yes, life threatening infections are a reality. You must make an effort to get your partner on the same page and minimize all risks to have a healthy sex life.

Abortion: An abortion is not an easy thing to deal with, especially if you are a young girl. Health risks are involved. The medical procedures may even cause an infection to your uterus. No matter what do not agree to get your abortion done in a shady place. Do your research well and seek counselling from a medical professional. This problem can be avoided by being safe and making the right choices. If usage of condoms protects you, why not make it a rule to never give in to pressure. Your goal should be to lead a healthy life and nothing should come in the way of your happiness.
